You are here >> Empowerment Center >> Healthy Eating Healthy Eating GuidelinesAll of us want good advice on what the best foods are for our families and us. But where is the best place to get good healthy eating guidelines that we can use, to make sure that we are not missing out on important areas of our diet? Some of the best sources of healthy eating guidelines are not the latest diet books, but the leaflets and information the government puts out to help people eat well. This information is both relevant and scientifically sound. The advice given is well tried and tested unlike some of the diet books that give you opinions rather than science. Not that some of them aren't very good, but you have to choose one with a good basis for their way of eating. Most of the information in the official healthy eating guidelines is fairly easy to follow. Most of us can understand that we need to eat fresh fruit and vegetables to keep us healthy. And when it is simply broken down by portions per day, then it is very easy to see whether or not we are eating the right amounts. Unlike many of the diets that are available, the official healthy eating guidelines do not tell us to avoid eating any particular types of foods. It merely says that we need to eat the less healthy foods with a little more care and that the major part of our diets should be from the things that are doing us some good and making a contribution to our health and well being. Sugary foods and fats may not be allowed in some of the more extreme diets that are available, but the standard healthy eating guidelines are a little more moderate. The idea seems to be that if you allow yourself some of the foods that are bad for you some of the time, but the main part of the diet is good, then you will end up with a diet that you can actually use without too much trouble. By following the official healthy eating guidelines you can have a simple way to eat that can help you to maintain a good diet without too many problems. By having a diet that you can use as a normal eating plan rather than a quick weight loss diet, you may find it easier to lose weight gradually and to maintain that weight loss. Following the standard healthy eating guidelines may not be the most fashionable way to diet, but it is all based on sound research that may last a lot longer than many of the diets that are currently on our bookshelves.
