You are here >> Empowerment Center >> Exercise Tips Exercise Program PitfallsThere's nothing hard about starting and following through with an exercise program. It's just easier for most people not to stick to the program. Many people would like to have an exercise program whether it's to lose weight or to simply stay in shape. It seems like every other activity starts to look more attractive when you are trying working out. One of the things that can help you to stick to your workout plan is knowing the pitfalls before you ever come to them. This way you know what to look for and how to avoid falling off the workout wagon. One of the major pitfalls that people make with their exercise program is setting unrealistic goals. Not only is it extremely difficult to lose 30 pounds in one month, it is also very unhealthy to lose that amount of weight in such a short amount of time. Your goals should be aggressive, but make sure that they are attainable. Another pitfall is trying to do too much too soon. Many people try to start out at a level that is too high for their current fitness state in an attempt to loose weight or tone up too quickly. Start your exercise program understanding that your goal, whatever it is, will take time to achieve. Don't try to do the impossible; it will only cause discouragement when it is not achieved. Many people fail to drink enough water and eat enough food when they are engaged in workout programs. When you exercise, your body will need more water than it usually does. Not only should you drink half your body weight in water, you should also consume an extra 16 ounces of water for every hour of exercise that you do. Your body is also using up much of the energy from the food that you are consuming. It is important that you maintain a nutritious diet while completing an exercise program in order to attain the best possible results.
