Your new son or daughter keeps crying out for you all through the day and night but you have no idea what is wrong. Obviously, since your newborn has no idea how to speak, he or she cannot tell you - so you only have the ability to guess. If your new child looks as though it is constantly in pain, it may have a form of infant acid reflux disease. Yes, infant acid reflux disease - a similar type of heartburn that you may have experienced after eating too much spicy food.

In order to fully know if your son or daughter has infant acid reflux disease, there are a few common symptoms that you should be on the lookout for. Firstly, check to see if your child is frequently vomiting or if your baby has a recurring cough. These are two of the first signs that your child is afflicted with infant acid reflux disease. Next, be sure to note whether or not your child has an aversion to eating - if he or she cries when you try to give her food or if she has difficulty eating. Finally, go to the doctor and check to see if your baby has large amounts of gas or continual abdominal pain.

Now, it is important to remember that simply because your son or daughter has the symptoms mentioned above does not mean that they necessarily have infant acid reflux disease. There are other illnesses like colic that can cause many of the same symptoms - so be sure to have your doctor do a full diagnosis before thinking that your child is definitely afflicted with infant acid reflux disease. If the final diagnosis is that your child has infant acid reflux, it will most commonly be treated with lifestyle changes such as elevating your child's head in the crib or by changing your child's diet. Medication should only be used for infant acid reflux disease as a last result.
